Laser eye surgery to correct the shape of the cornea

Laser eye surgery has been getting popular to many people as thousand and thousands turn to laser eye surgery each year to correct their vision and throw away dependency on glasses or contact lenses and its a commonly practiced procedures to correct vision problems. During the laser eye surgery, a surgeon uses a laser device to make permanent changes to the shape of the cornea. As the cornea is a part of the eye that helps focus light to create an image on the retina. This kind of eye surgery has help many people with problems related to a defective sight and laser eye surgery its said to be a simple and quick procedure of correcting your vision.

Laser eye surgery is performed by trained eye specialists and the doctor mostly performed the two or three types of eye surgery to the patient such as PRK known as photo refractive keractectomy or lasik or lasek. For PKR the specialist removes the outer layer of the cornea with a surgical blade instrument. For lasik the surgery is more complicated as the surgeon first cuts a flap in the cornea with a very sharp blade or laser, and then lifts it and uses a computer-guided laser to remove calculated amounts of tissue from the inside layers of the cornea. For lasek the surgeon cuts the outer layer of the cornea (epithelium) with a fine blade, and uses alcohol to loosen and lift it in a single layer.
